Car Shipping to Norway Checklist

In order to export any vehicle from the U.S., we will require the following in order to meet US Custom regulations:

• Original Title/MSO
• Completed SLI & POA form
• Copy of Passport
• Commercial Invoice / Bill of Sale (official DMV template available on request)

VAT Rates Norway

Prior to importing a vehicle from the US to Norway, verify your vehicle’s specifications and compliance with Norway requirements. Anyone importing a vehicle to Norway from the US needs to pay certain duties.

If you are importing a vehicle to Norway from the USA, your car will be subject to local customs duties levied by the Norwegian government, these include:

• Registration Tax – Calculated based on your vehicle specifications, this is only paid once.
• 25% VAT – Based on the customs value, paid when you cross the border.
• Greenhouse Gas Tax – Calculated according to weight of the greenhouse gases in your vehicle’s air conditioning system.
• Scrap Deposit Tax – Collected with your Registration Tax.

However, in certain circumstances you might be able to gain exemption from paying customs duties and taxes.

Temporary residents staying for a year or less can import the vehicle tax and duty free. However, the time period begins upon your arrival to Norway, not when your vehicle arrives. If you’re planning on staying more than a year, all required taxes must be paid.

The amount of taxes and import duties payable when importing a car to Norway from the US will vary and depends on the details of your shipment.
