CBP is tasked with protecting our Nation’s borders and enforcing numerous laws at ports of entry on behalf of other government agencies, including state and local law enforcement.  All persons, shippers, forwarders, baggage, and other merchandise arriving in or leaving the United States are subject to inspection and search by CBP officers.  Occasionally, CBP may inconvenience law-abiding persons in our efforts to detect, deter, and mitigate threats.  We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding in the effective protection of our borders. 

In terms of C-TPAT member examinations, C-TPAT members remain subject to US customs inspections and or exams. In fact all cargo remains subject to be transfer to US customs bonded warehouse, when requested and required by CBP officers. 

Once the cargo arrives at a Centralized Examination Station (CES) or terminal, CBP will ensure that the C-TPAT participant is transfer with all the other C-TPAT members which are also expecting for their full inspection to be conducted.  CBP also conducts exams for the non C-TPAT members at our CES or terminal.

There are no costs or fees charged by CBP; however, Centralized Examination Stations and the terminals do charge various fees on both exportation and importation including but not limited to: port demurrage, port exam fees charges, US customs bonded warehouse dray, chassis, unloading, reloading, exam fees, carrier roll over fees, carrier administrative fees, etc.
